Clutch replacement in Ireland
A slipping or heavy clutch, or a bite point that has crept high, usually means the clutch is wearing out. Left too long it can leave you stranded.
What's involved
Clutch replacement means removing the gearbox to fit a new clutch kit — friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing — and often checking the flywheel. It's labour-intensive, so an accurate quote matters.
Clutch replacement — questions
How do I know my clutch is going?
Slipping (revs rise but speed doesn't), a high or vague bite point, juddering, or a heavy or noisy pedal are common signs.
How long does a clutch last?
Very variable — 100,000 km or more with gentle driving, much less with heavy town or towing use.
Should the flywheel be done too?
Often it's inspected and, on dual-mass flywheel cars, replaced at the same time if worn — your garage will advise with the clutch quote.
